Winchester MP Steve Brine quizzed the new Director General of the BBC today.
Mr Brine is part of the influential DCMS committee, and new BBC boss Tim Davie was giving evidence to the committee.
Steve questioned him on a number of subjects, including Mr Davie’s plans for BBC stars to be held to strict impartiality rules on their social media.
Steve referenced Gary Lineker’s apparent mocking response to the new rules, and asked Mr Davie if he was aware of this reaction, as well as why this impartiality drive seems to be a key part of his plan to take the BBC forward. Mr Davie replied that his approach was “well supported” by the majority of BBC staff and that Gary Lineker understands his responsibilities as a member of the BBC.
Steve said after the session “Tim Davie is an extremely impressive new DG and I think he came across very well in front of the Committee. We look forward to questioning him over the years and I am sure we will many times."
