Steve Brine MP chaired a special roundtable with a group of local sports clubs as part of a select committee inquiry.
The session will help inform the DCMS Select Committee’s ‘Sport in our Communities’ inquiry. Mr Brine is a member of the committee.
Among the attendees were representatives from Winchester City Flyers, Compton and Chandler’s Ford Cricket Club, Winchester Badminton Club, Winchester Netball Club, Winchester City Royals Basketball Club and Winchester CTC.
The discussion last for an hour and half, as club volunteers touched on everything from Covid to access to facilities and gave Steve and officials a detailed insight into the heart of the community.
After the meeting Steve Brine said; “It was so helpful to directly interact with local sports clubs at this crucial time. The insights they shared with us will be really useful in assisting the Committee’s ongoing inquiry.
“It was interesting to hear that the main issue facing many of our clubs is access to facilities and so wish there was a determined and focused sports strategy across the area from both Winchester & Eastleigh councils. There was a sense from the witness that they want to seize the opportunity of the pandemic and be a positive driving force for community sport in the future”
