Steve Brine spoke in an Opposition Day debate on climate change on 1st May 2019.
The Winchester and Chandler's Ford MP intervened on Jeremy Corbyn's speech. He referred to US President Donald Trump's refusal to co-operate with the Paris Agreement, signed in 2016, committed countries to limit carbon emissions, as well as Jeremy Corbyn's policy on coal.
Steve said: "I agree with what the Leader of the Opposition said about President Trump. It is time that he re-engaged with the Paris agenda, and dare I say that that would be a good subject for after-dinner conversation? The right hon. Gentleman mentioned leading by example, and he is right that this country must do that even though we play only a small part in the overall global emissions. Should he become Prime Minister, where does he think coal should sit in the balanced energy policy of the future?"
The Leader of the Opposition replied that a potential future Labour Government would seek to reduce the amount of fossil fuels used in producing energy.
