Local MP Steve Brine visited Tesco’s Winchester store on 5th April to see Tesco ‘turn pink’ and encourage people to support Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.
The nationwide ‘Tesco Turns Pink’ weekend saw thousands of Tesco colleagues unite across the UK to raise vital funds to help beat cancer. Mr Brine, who was until recently the Cancer Minister within Government, joined colleagues and Cancer Research UK volunteers in pink clothes, pink wigs and even dyed-pink hair to help raise funds in store.
Customers had the opportunity to find out more about joining a local Race for Life and bag a limited number of free entry places to their local race event at River Park, Winchester on Sunday 26th May.
Mr Brine said: “‘Tesco Turns Pink’ weekend is a fantastic way for constituents and customers alike to support Tesco’s partnership with Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life. It’s also a great opportunity to come together to raise vital funds for the charity.
“Thanks to the efforts of customers and volunteers, Cancer Research UK is able to support research to fight 200 types of cancer. The good news is more people are surviving the disease than ever before and that cancer survival in the UK has doubled since the early 1970s.”
Tesco has partnered with Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life for 18 years. Race for Life is an inspiring series of 5k, 10k, Pretty Muddy and Pretty Muddy Kids events which raise millions of pounds every year to help beat cancer by funding crucial research.
This year, for the first time, Cancer Research UK is inviting everyone – women, men and children – to join the Race for Life events.
