Steve Brine discussed his Ministerial work in the Department of Health as he spoke to a local group at St Peter’s Church on Friday 12th October.
The Winchester MP is also the Public Health Minister, and he addressed the Winchester and Eastleigh Diabetes UK Support Group during the evening, where he spoke about the importance of prevention, as well as taking questions from the floor.
Chaired by Dave Pomfrey, the group relaunched two years ago with the aim of providing support and information to those affected by diabetes locally.
They run awareness and fundraising events, with a number of free events each year when speakers who are experts in their field chat to the group on topics such as diet, exercise or advances in treatment.
The group is also represented on the Patient Participation Group and Networking Forums so that they can raise awareness and improve outcomes for those with diabetes across the area.
Sally Oxlade, Treasurer, said: “We were thrilled that Steve Brine came and spoke to us on Friday, and it was so interesting to hear about his passions when it comes to the diabetes world.
“He spoke about his campaign against childhood obesity and the positive use of the sugar tax to fund sports in primary schools. He also covered the challenges the NHS face when dealing with diabetes as well as the encouraging advances that are being made in care. We really appreciate his support and endorsement of our group.”
