Steve Brine visited Southampton International Airport today in the week a new draft masterplan was launched for the fast growing business just outside Eastleigh.
The Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP met with new Managing Director, Neil Garwood, to catch-up on the business, issues around Brexit and the new plan for growth.
Steve said; "This was a really useful visit as I was very keen to hear about the new draft masterplan for growth which launched this week. Southampton Airport is one of the best regional airports in the country and we're very lucky to have it on our doorstep but, of course, there is a certain amount of air traffic as a result. Clearly that is part of the deal.
"When the airport expanded in the past, all the liaison seemed to be with Eastleigh Borough Council but as the MP this time around I am determined Winchester and it’s City Council will be heard very clearly in the process. I am working with Cllr Jan Warwick, who represents Compton and Shawford, and a number of interested local residents to make sure this happens.
"The fact is, a large number of my constituents live under the northern flightpath into SIA and, while as far back as the Itchen Valley planes are still quite high, that is not the case in Twyford, Shawford, Compton, Otterbourne and Colden Common.
"I would urge anyone interested to visit the masterplan web-page below or drop into Shawford if they can."
Steve added that he is also liaising with councillors in Chandler's Ford ahead of Eastleigh Borough Council's response to the consultation which closes on 30th October 2018.
There’s a live consultation out now which you can see via the link below and a drop-in at Shawford Parish Hall on Friday 5 October 4-9pm. Other consultation events (all outside of Steve's constituency) include:
Monday 8 October – Holiday Inn Eastleigh, 17:00 – 21:00
Tuesday 16 October – Bitterne Park School, 17:00 – 21:00
Saturday 20 October – Southampton Airport, 09:00 – 13:00
