Winchester MP Steve Brine has visited CALA Homes' Kings Barton development two years on from when construction began.
The MP met with CALA's Regional Managing Director, Nick Twine, and the company's Technical Director, Rob Westwood, to undertake an exclusive tour of the site. He also received a briefing on the development's masterplan and heard from CALA on key development milestones achieved to date, as well as how a second phase of homes has been accelerated to meet demand.
Kings Barton is an aspirational new suburb of Winchester that will create 2,000 homes around a vibrant centre of shops, leisure and community facilities, as well as a new school and public open space. Since its launch in February 2017, the development has proven popular with homebuyers with over 80 properties sold to date. A total of 70 new CALA homeowners have now moved into the flourishing development.
A further phase of larger detached homes have now been released for sale, with 75% already been reserved. A further 40 homes have also been handed over to CALA's affordable housing partner, Vivid.
Taking inspiration from the unique character of Winchester and embracing the very best of traditional and contemporary design, the development forms a new northern edge to Winchester; connecting communities and creating an impressive new gateway to the city.
Following the visit, Steve Brine MP, said: "I was very keen to visit the site and take a look at how Kings Barton is developing, and it was great to see young families settling in. It was good to get an overview of how the landscape, when viewed from the west, will change as the development continues.
"I was also intrigued to see from the ground how the development will progress, not least around the plot of the new Barton Farm Primary School, where I am a Trustee of the Academy Trust at the University of Winchester, overseeing plans to make this a fantastic eco-school.
"I was also keen to raise the future of the Andover Road, which has been the subject of a great deal of local discussion recently. I was pleased that CALA understand that the Hampshire County Council movement study is key here, and accept that Hampshire County Council Highways can change things if they wish."
Kings Barton will be developed over the next 10 - 15 years. A Reserved Matters planning permission was granted for the first phase of 423 homes in March 2014, with work on the first properties beginning in July 2016. An additional Reserved Matters planning application for the next phase of between 200 and 300 homes will be submitted this autumn.
