Home Instead Senior Care, an at home care company servicing clients in Winchester, New Alresford, Eastleigh, Chandlers Ford and surrounding areas has announced a range of events focussed on people living with dementia, as well as their carers.
They have just announced their latest special screening in the Morning Matinee series at the Everyman Cinema in Winchester, where The Screen will be showing Funny Face on Wednesday 3rd May at 10.30am. Tickets cost £5.00 each and there will be a free cup of coffee or tea and a cookie for everyone coming along.
The cinema has recently been refurbished and the event organisers are making the event as stress-free as possible for those attending. Along with staff trained in dementia awareness, local support groups will be in attendance to ensure that is a fun and entertaining experience for everyone.
Furthermore, the lights will be up a little and the sound down and people are free to wander around the theatre. There will also be an interval and well-lit signs for the toilets.
Steve Gapper, owner of Home Instead, said: "We are delighted to be support the third in the series of special screenings. We are hoping that many people living with dementia and their carers will be able to come. We're really looking forward to seeing you there."
In addition to the special screenings, Home Instead is also launching a new Memory Café in Alresford on the first Friday of each month and a Singing for Fun group on the third Friday of each month.
Memory Cafés are comfortable and supportive gatherings for people living with dementia and their carers where they can socialise with others in a similar situation. There is a chance to talk, reminisce and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit in a safe, friendly environment. The next Memory Café will be held at St Gregory's Church Hall from 2.00pm to 3.30pm on Friday 6th May.
Singing for Fun starts on Friday 15th April also at St Gregory's Church and also from 2.00pm to 3.30pm. This is a fun singing group for the elderly where we will sing old favourites that everyone knows. It is designed to improve the well-being of people with memory problems. Again tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided. Both events are free to attend and there is ample parking with good disabled access.
Steve's wife, Jan Gapper, said: "With good care and support provision, older people can continue to enjoy a high quality of life, and we're so proud to provide valuable care, companionship and support that enable this to happen. We wanted to put something back into the town of Alresford where we've been since we started our business five years ago.
"We have a special interest in dementia and believe that our Memory Cafés and Singing for Fun groups will enhance the lives of older people in the town."
Steve Brine added: "I have known Steve and Jan for many years now, and I am very impressed at what they are doing here. I would encourage anyone who knows a friend or family member with dementia, or who knows a carer, to let them know about these fantastic events."
