A support group for women surviving cancer welcomed Steve Brine to their monthly meeting in Winchester tonight (Tuesday 5 April 2016).
The Winchester Breast Cancer Support Group meets the first Tuesday of every month at Christ Church in the city and Steve, who chaired the All-Party Breast Cancer Group in Parliament for five years of the last Parliament, went along.
As well as speaking to the group about his time since 2010 as a Member of Parliament and his time chairing the APPG, Mr Brine took part in a wide ranging discusion and took questions on subjects incuding the Cancer Drugs Fund, Lymphodema services, women's pensions, breast screening and research looking into the causes of breast cancer.
Speaking after the meeting Steve said; "They are a lovely group and it was the fulfillment of a long-standing promise for me to go along to one of their meetings. I really enjoyed our time together and hearing so many of their stories and experiences. Breast cancer is one of the fights of our age, and with more than 10,000 women a year dying of the disease, we can never let up in our determination to beat this menace."
