Always keen to fly the flag for the Hampshire business community, leading construction firm, the Lakesmere Group was delighted to welcome local MP Steve Brine to its Winchester HQ on Friday 25th September.
Mr Brine, MP for Winchester & Chandler's Ford, dropped in to offer his personal congratulations to the company on being awarded the Queen's Award for Enterprise earlier this year. His visit came just over a week before The Lakesmere Group officially receives the award from Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire, Nigel Atkinson on 5th October.
During his visit, Mr Brine was given the opportunity to meet with various members of the Lakesmere team to find out more about the company, Lakesmere's construction contracts both here in the UK and overseas, and what has made the company worthy of such a prestigious award. Part of the tour included a visit to the company's new metal fabrication manufacturing facility which produces various roofing and cladding panels and profiles for use on its projects.
He said: "Lakesmere is another revelation on the Winnall Industrial Estate, a world-beating business in its field employing hundreds of people across the country as well as hundreds at their headquarters. Most impressive of all to me is that here we have a manufacturing business right here in Winchester and that can only be a good thing for the mix of our local economy. Their Queen's Award for Enterprise, from what I have seen, is richly deserved."
Commenting on the visit, CEO of the Lakesmere Group Mark Davey said: 'Although Lakesmere operates on an international level, we are extremely proud of our local roots and for bringing manufacturing back to Winnall! I never get bored of showing visitors round the business and promoting the great work our staff do, but welcoming Steve here today was a real privilege."
The Lakesmere Group was named as a winner of the Queen's Award for Enterprise in April 2015.Lakesmere received the award for business excellence and International Trade in recognition of outstanding business performance in the overseas construction market resulting in exports rising as a percentage of turnover from 1% to 30%.
