A Winchester vicar has recently visited Parliament to speak to a group of MPs and Peers over breakfast following their regular Wednesday morning Holy Communion.
Every month a group of Members of Parliament gather together on a Wednesday morning at St Margaret’s Church behind Westminster Abbey for Holy Communion, before heading to the Speaker’s House for a talk over breakfast.
Revd Simon Cansdale, Vicar of Christchurch Winchester, was invited to speak to the group, kicking off this year’s theme of ‘Stories of Hope’.
Christchurch is a church of 600-700 people with an emphasis on prison, university, hospice and hospital ministry and multiple volunteer groups in the city of Winchester. This was of interest to the group and made the basis for Simon’s talk.
The MP for Winchester and Chandler’s Ford, Steve Brine, said : “It was truly wonderful to have Simon Cansdale join us for our monthly Holy Communion and to speak to our group over breakfast. It’s no small feat and nor is catching the 05:30 train to do so! We salute and pray for you Simon.”
