Steve Brine welcomed the decision by US firm Wheelabrator to cancel their plans to build a waste incinerator in the Test Valley, which would have been visible from miles around.
The proposed Wheelabrator Incinerator would have been built just north of Barton Stacey, near the A303, and it would have been twice the size of Winchester Cathedral
Mr Brine had previously spoken out against the planned development, including in a debate in Parliament which, while in the constituency of neighbouring MP for Romsey Caroline Nokes, has caused widespread concern among his own constituents living in the villages across Wonston and Micheldever.
The plans first surfaced last year and Steve worked with colleagues - including local councillors Cllr Stephen Godfrey , Cllr Caroline Horrill and Cllr Patrick Cunningham to fight the plans – and the Keep Test Valley Beautiful campaign group.
Steve Brine said “I was delighted to hear this morning that Wheelabrator have decided to cancel this project, which would have been a real blight on this area of the Hampshire countryside, and hopefully that’s the last we’ll hear of it. Congratulations to all the campaigners involved in raising awareness of the plans.”
