Steve dropped into Freshers Fayre on Saturday September 25 to take in the atmosphere and meet the Winchester Student Conservative Society.
This year, the WSCS stall was busier than ever, with plenty of students queuing up to meet Steve and ask questions about Westminster, the new Coalition Government and his new life as an MP.
Martin Higson, WSCS President said: “What a fantastic day we’ve had. I can’t remember it being this busy before, and the interest from new students has been phenomenal. We’ve had record numbers signing up to our society, which is the first and only political society the university has had.”
Steve Brine added: “It was great to be back on campus for this year’s Fresher’s Fair, the fourth one I have done here in Winchester and of course, the first as the local MP. As a former Student Union President myself I always look forward to this event and it was great to receive such an overwhelmingly positive response from the new students. Some seemed a little worse for wear at the end of their first week which is only right when you are a fresher at University! I’m really looking forward to working on campus as much as possible, both with the student society and with university staff and students in my role as local MP.”
