On Saturday 14th May, the bowls section of Twyford Bowls and Lawn Tennis Club held an open day as the club look to attract new members.
Twyford Bowls club in recent years has been popular amongst people living outside of the village, with many residents unaware that the sporting club has been located on Roman Road since 1901.
The open day was a new initiative organized by members of the club to increase interest in residents of the Hampshire village, as the event was advertised throughout recent weeks.
The event saw great success as the hard work of members and volunteers in promoting it paid off. During the day a constant stream of visitors, the vast majority from the village, arrived at the club’s pavilion. Among the interested individuals was Winchester and Chandler’s Ford MP, Steve Brine.
Visitors had the opportunity to give flat green bowling a chance as well as hearing about the club’s history from its engaged coach and members. A number of attendees signed up to become full members after enjoying the exciting atmosphere on Roman Road.
Steve Brine MP, who joined members and residents with his son, William, said; “It was great fun to be at the Twyford Bowls clubs this morning and I’m so glad to have finally had the opportunity to try this wonderfully addictive game!”
“Thank you to the club for asking me and young William to come along and have a go and it was good to see so much of Twyford come out in support of this village institution.”
Twyford Bowls and Lawn Tennis Club has an open recruitment for members, of all ages and abilities, and has asked for anyone interested to contact Alain Le Goff on 07999 787013 or at [email protected].
