Steve Brine brought a Government Minister to Winchester on Tuesday 29th April as part of his work to ensure that the city's response to the recent flooding is fed into the heart of government.
Greg Barker, the Minister of State for Climate Change, visited Water Lane and Park Road as Steve Brine and key figures from the city council and the Environment Agency briefed him on how Winchester coped.
Steve also took Mr Barker to the Willow Tree pub, which he visited at the height of the flooding, so the landlord could explain face-to-face the impact on his pub.
Speaking afterwards, Steve said: "Back in February, we were very much in crisis mode, working around the clock to protect the city centre and areas such as the Worthys, Littleton, Twyford, Sutton Scotney, the Itchen Valley and Hursley.
"Since then I have held a series of high-level meetings to examine what lessons we learnt from a decade ago, what we could improve and crucially, what we need.
"The reason I brought Greg Barker here is so that he can see for himself the lie of the land, and importantly, put our case to the Prime Minister and the heart of government."
The morning was very well attended, with a host of media including Wave, the Hampshire Chronicle and BBC South Today. In addition, respected community leaders such as Rob Humby and Chris Pines were involved.
