Steve Brine MP led a major cancer debate in Parliament in his role as the new Chair of the Health and Social Care Select Committee and highlighted the Committee’s recent report on Cancer Services.
Mr Brine explained to the House that, “one in two people in the UK will develop cancer at some point in their lives. So, it is no exaggeration to say that this is an issue that affects everyone.” A truly harrowing statistic.
Further to this, Mr Brine went on to say, “the report has found that great strides have been made to improve the survival rate for those diagnosed with cancer with more than half of people diagnosed living for five years or more. Thanks to the tireless work of scientists, researchers, doctors, nurses, and others, including Ministers.”
However, Mr Brine pointed out that “the UK continues to lag behind comparable countries around the world.”
Mr Brine has made cancer a priority of the Committee under his Chairmanship, having cancer touch the lives of those close to him in the worst way.
