Steve Brine visited staff at Winchester's Royal Hampshire County Hospital on 8th July to discuss a wide range of topics with CEO Dr Chris Gordon.
As well as discussing the ongoing merger plans, Steve visited the new £250,000 Hyper Acute Stroke Unit which has just been unveiled.
Since the meeting, it has been formally announced that A&E and maternity are to remain at RHCH.
Steve said: "I was delighted to meet with Chris again, and we managed to discuss an awful lot. I have long campaigned for the need to retain a district general hospital here in Winchester- A&E and maternity are key services.
"I continue to work with the team as plans move forward towards the new trust covering Winchester and Basingstoke, all the time keeping local services at the forefront of my mind.
"I was also very impressed with the fantastic new Hyper Acute Stroke Unit, and delighted to see that such a facility is present right here in our local hospital."
