Steve Brine took part in a special physiotherapy session on Thursday 26th February as he helped to mark the first birthday of the Chandler's Ford Stroke Support Group.
The Chandler's Ford MP visited the Velmore Centre, on Falkland Road, as he joined the group in celebrating their first year in operation, and learned about how the group has grown, conducting both physical therapy and speech therapy sessions during their meetings, as well as holding games and activities to help build the confidence of their members.
Steve Brine said: "I was honoured to be asked to come along, and it was great to meet the members and volunteers who do so much to help local people affected by stroke. In addition to the exercise class, which I suspect I will never live down, it was especially good to sit in on a speech and language session.
"Stroke takes so much away from its victims and confidence is a key part of that so it was lovely to watch the work of the group's visiting SLT, Heidi, working so well with those attending."
The group, supported by the Rotary Club of Chandler's Ford and Itchen Valley, provides social and recreational activities, as well as communication support for people with aphasia and other communication disabilities caused by stroke.
Steve continued: "It is testament to this thriving organisation that they are now increasing their meetings to two per month, as well as linking everyone up to share their experiences."
