Steve spent some time at the home of a local green pioneer on Saturday 26th March to see for himself the dramatic work carried out on the property. The home, in Piping Close in Colden Common, has been comprehensively redesigned by Rob Veck, with solar panels, roof and under-floor insulation among many features that have cut his carbon footprint by 80% while making significant cuts in fuel bills. Rob told Steve about a GreenWin social enterprise company he is involved in setting up, and explained how the business model, which is based on existing Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) material, can involve community groups and local businesses in the new Green Deal. Commenting en route to his next Saturday morning appointment, Steve said: “What an absolutely fascinating tour I have just had around Rob’s home. He is so passionate about the environment, and deserves real plaudits for making such a reduction in the building’s carbon footprint. “Of course, there are a number of issues around getting work of this type done on a home, not least the disruption that can be caused. But these plans are very exciting, and I will be taking this example to the Minister and his team.” Pictured; Steve joins Rob Veck outside his ‘new’ eco-home in Colden Common More information...
