Steve Brine has warmly welcomed news that from next year, residents of the Winchester District will benefit from a kerbside glass collection service.
As part of its commitment to helping residents create a more environmentally-friendly district, Winchester City Council will include a monthly kerbside glass collection service for all households as part of the revised specification for its waste collection contract which is currently being prepared. The service will start in 2019.
Increasing recycling levels are part of the City Council's aim to improve the quality of the District's environment, along with the protection and enhancement of open spaces and the reduction of harmful emissions.
Cllr Jan Warwick, the City Council's Portfolio Holder for Environment, said: "The introduction of kerbside glass recycling follows feedback from members of the public, so our move to provide this service is a clear demonstration not just of our commitment to improving and maintaining the natural environment but also of how we listen and respond to the needs of our residents."
Steve Brine said: "This is great news, and builds further on the excellent raft of initiatives that have been announced by Conservatives at all levels of local and national government of late. Huge congratulations to Winchester City Council for being able to introduce this measure sensibly and with sound planning. I know it will be warmly welcomed across the district."
