The Never Such Innocence competition is open to all children aged 9-16. Submissions can be on any subject related to the First World War, and art can be in any medium.
To inspire children's entries, the organisers produce an educational resource which is distributed free of charge upon request, and available to download online. They have worked with Embassies and High Commissions and historians internationally to offer multiple perspectives on the War. The resource also gives an introduction to different themes such as the War at Sea, Young People at War, and Nursing.
Steve Brine said: "I know they pull out all the stops to ensure that young people feel important and empowered to participate in remembrance. Every entrant receives a personalised Certificate of Commendation signed by their President Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence KCVO, CB, ADC(P). They also offer unique opportunities for children at our events across the British Isles, and once-in-a-lifetime prizes for winners. Winners also receive cash prizes, and are invited to collect their winnings at a prestigious Awards Ceremony!"
The music strand of the competition, Songs of the Centenary, is powered by Trackd and in partnership with Dave Stewart Entertainment. Trackd is an app that enables children to create music and lyrics, or record their lyrics to pre-existing music, and enter their creation into the competition. This means that no musical background is needed for children to enter.
The team are very excited to be partnered with the Royal Air Force and Royal British Legion to offer entrants the opportunity to win some very special bonus prizes. To mark the formation of the world's first independent air force in 1918, entries inspired by 'the War in the Skies' will be eligible for special bonus prizes, courtesy of the RAF. And together with the Royal British Legion, they are inviting young people to share a message of remembrance and hope, by saying 'Thank You' to the First World War generation. Entries inspired by the 'Greatest Thank You' campaign could feature in the Legion's famous events, including the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall.
