WinACC host 'The Climate Change Question' with candidates at the University of Winchester.
Prospective Conservative Winchester MP Steve Brine took part in a Winchester first this evening – a General Election climate change hustings meeting.
Winchester Action on Climate Change (WinACC) hosted the event with the University of Winchester, chaired by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Joy Carter.
It featured the Conservative, Liberal, Labour and English Democrat candidate as well as WinACC ‘expert’ Bob Whitmarsh.
Questions ranged from ‘what will you do’, to renewable energy generation, climate refugees and population control.
Speaking after the event Steve Brine said; "It is a measure of how central the issue of climate change is at this election that we had a dedicated hustings meeting on the subject for the first time.
I really enjoyed the opportunity to put forward some of the progressive Conservative policies in our manifesto and to remind people here they now have a real alternative if they want tackling climate change to be at the heart of the next Government.
“If you are Liberal Democrat voter here in Winchester or Chandler's Ford who wants to see the back of this tired and failing Prime Minister you now have a Conservative Party that puts the environmental agenda at the heart of its manifesto.
You can have a good local MP who will personally champion the green agenda in Parliament AND change the Government this year.”
