Steve Brine visited Peter Symonds College today as the end of term loomed.
The MP for Winchester & Chandler's Ford met up with Principal, Sara Russell, to understand planned future changes between BTEC and T-Levels and the impact that will have on his constituents. From 2025 many BTEC courses are set to be no longer funded which the sector claims will greatly limit choice.
He also took a look inside the recently opened Carville Building which houses criminology and economics students - it will be officially opened by its namesake, for Principal Steven Carville, next month - and popped into see the renovated lecture theatre.
Steve says; "I am going to be seeking a debate in the Commons on this after Easter so it was a really useful hour spent with Sara to be briefed. I think there's a real issue with the Government pulling back from BTEC's, in favour of T-Level's, especially where there is no equivalent in the new qualification."
