Software company, based at the Tollgate Business Park in Chandler's Ford, drives revolutionary transformation in the prisons across UK and the world.
Unilink Software, brings prisons from the Victorian times to the modern age thanks to innovative software solutions. The firm is now the world leader in self - service systems for prisoners.
Specialist software written at Unilink's base at Chandler's Ford enables prisoners to use secure touchscreen terminals to do for themselves basic tasks such as ordering their meals, arranging visits and weekly shopping for basics such as toiletries and snacks. This cuts costs and frees up prison officers' time which can be spend on more useful work with the inmates. Prisoners take charge of parts of their daily lives reducing institutionalisation and, by avoiding flashpoints such as requests forgotten by busy officers, Unilink helps make prisons calmer.
Steve Brine, the Winchester and Chandler's Ford MP, visited Unilink last week to hear about the fast - growing business in the UK and overseas.
Unilink is at work in every privately – operated prison and its systems are now being rolled out in the public prison network as part of the Digital Prison reform programme and across Australia. Although not yet confirmed, there are hopes that HMP Winchester will be include in one of the next phases.
The MP was impressed by the company's deep understanding of the specialist prison environment and how its expanding team of expert software developers come up with reliable and effective systems that work for prisoners and prison staff.
Speaking at Unilink Steve Brine said:"Unilink has a fantastic business right here in Chandler's Ford developing a world-leading technical product for an extremely difficult working environment. My interest in criminal justice policy is long-standing so this was a fascinating visit. Making prisons more humane and more likely to reduce future offending matters to us all and I can see Unilink are a key part of the solution."
David Purkess, Unilink Technical Director said that Steve's warm support for Unilink's work with Government was a real help. He added: "We are always looking for more talented technical people for our team here. Our Software team has doubled in size to over 40 in less than three years. If you want to be part of a great team producing innovative software applications that make a difference, we need to hear from you."
