George Osborne joined up with actors Sarah Parish and Jim Murray as they attended the Parliamentary launch of Two Million Steps, the campaign to fund a new children's hospital in Southampton.
Sarah and Jim, who live in Winchester, set up the Murray-Parish Trust after they lost their eight month old daughter in 2009. They joined forces with Steve Brine, the Southern Daily Echo and cross-party MPs earlier this year on the 'Say Yes George' campaign, which lobbied the Chancellor to provide £2m funding for the proposed hospital, with the commitment for the team to raise the same amount to get the scheme off the ground.
The fundraising drive, run in partnership with Southampton Hospital Charity, aims to follow in the footsteps a Great Ormond Street Hospital campaign which raised £3million for children in London, boosted with £1.5million matched funding from the Treasury.
Steve Brine said: "We were delighted to receive the funding in the Budget this Spring, and now the work really starts to raise that £2m locally. It was fantastic that the Chancellor could drop by to meet the team, and it's now onwards and upwards!"
