Brownhill Surgery in Chandler's Ford has given the local NHS formal notice that it will end its contract to provide general medical services on 30th November 2017.
The West Hampshire Clinical Commissioning Group (WHCCG) received notice a short time ago and informed staff today (Wednesday 19th July 2017) before writing to all 7,000 registered patients on the surgery's list.
Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP Steve Brine was briefed on the situation and used his social media presence to help spread the word among affected constituents.　 He says; "The bottom line is that Brownhill Surgery has, in accordance with its terms, given formal notice that it will end its GMS contract at the end of November this year and that is disappointing if not entirely unsurprising.
"As we all know, GP practices are distinct partnerships in their own right; not part of the NHS but contracted to provide services within the NHS. Each CCG has a statutory responsibility to provide primary care services and that is why WHCCG are leading this process and consulting with everyone registered at Brownhill to ensure continuity of access after 30th November.
"As the Chandler's Ford MP I and am making sure the CCG carries out its statutory duty in this respect. I am in regular contact with the Director of Commissioning (south West) at WHCCG and will shortly discuss the issue face-to-face with the Chief Officer. I have, of course, offered every support I can to see the minimum level of disruption to patients - especially those with long-term conditions who have very regular contact with the surgery - as we move towards and beyond the contract end point."
