Brasserie Blanc, Winchester's newest restaurant, had its official launch this evening (Thursday, March 13).
Civic dignitaries were invited to have a look around the two-storey venue in Jewry Street, along with Prospective Winchester MP Steve Brine.
Around 150 people attended, ranging from business leaders to council chiefs and from food producers to restaurant owners. The venue is the seventh in a chain operated by renowned chef, Raymond Blanc, who attended the launch event himself.
Later on, while giving a speech, he touched upon the city's growing range of fine cuisine. "I see a culture of food being born right here in Hampshire, and it is very exciting to be part of it," he said. He also introduced assembled guests to Steve & Susie’s 4-month old daughter, Emily Brine, who is currently the youngest diner at the newest restaurant in the Brasseries Blanc chain!
The new restaurant has space for 140 diners, along with outside terraces, a private dining room and open kitchen. It is housed in new purpose-built premises created by Winchester-based developer, Mohamed Bakhaty.
