Steve Brine addresses teachers in Parliament

Steve Brine once again met up with the Teachers' Institute in Parliament in July after being asked to address a group learning more about how Parliament works.

The Teachers' Institute is designed to immerse teachers in the life of Parliament through a wide range of talks, workshops and events. As well as MPs such as Steve, those involved in delivering talks include the Speaker and Lord Speaker, Members of the House of Lords, and House staff.

Steve was able to discuss his previous work, before he was appointed to the Whips Office, as a PPS in the DWP, Home Office and most recently, with Jeremy Hunt in Health, as well as his work as an MP in Westminster and across Winchester & Chandler's Ford.

Following his talk, which included local teachers in the audience, he opened the floor to a Q&A session, which lasted around 30 minutes in the Education Centre, situated in Black Rod's Garden.

Speaking afterwards, Steve said: "I fondly remembered the last time I met the TI and this was another engaging session. I really enjoyed the Q&A and hope everyone took a lot out of not just my own talk, but their whole experience up here as a whole."

Feedback from the group reported afterwards included:

Excellent focus on tackling cynicism with regard to young people

What an honest and genuine speaker. Great up to date views, particularly after seeing Health Questions first

Very interesting to hear process he went through to become an MP. Role of PPS gave a great insight into parliamentary process. Liked the emphasis on challenging cynicism about the work of both Parliament and MPs
