RLANDenergyLtd formally lodged an application with Hampshire County Council for an energy recovery centre on land alongside the railway station at Micheldever Station.
Clean Power Properties Ltd - which is a joint venture between Network Rail and RLAND - plan to produce Energy Recovery Centres on sites across the country where household waste is disposed of and turned into clean energy. Micheldever Station would be their first.
They held an open exhibition on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 June 2012 at the Micheldever Station Community & Recreation Centre. They formally put in a planning application - and environmental statement - on Friday 7 September 2012.
Winchester MP Steve Brine attended the exhibition where he met some members of the project team and chatted with constituents.
He has continued to represent constituents on the subject and support the Micheldever Action Group (MAG) and Micheldever Parish Council (MPC) in their campaign to object.
Steve has also worked closely with local City Councillor, Stephen Godfrey, who has been tireless in his efforts to help residents.
Steve says; "I know the local community has lots of questions and there is considerable concern which I very much understand and I share. You cannot question the need to find sustainable, cheaper and cleaner alternatives to landfill or even incineration but the question we have to ask ourselves is, are we content to see this site used for the processing of household waste from near and almost certainly far?
"On-balance I think this is a proposal we should reject and I was delighted to see the initial decision, from Winchester City Council, unanimously rejecting it. I hope Hampshire will now follow their lead and kill this idea off once and for all."
Winchester City Council's planning committee heard the application on Monday 17 December 2012 and unanimously turned down the plans put forward by Clean Power. This view accompanied the application as it moved to Hampshire County Council for final decision by its Regulatory Committee in June 2014.
A consultation was held [under Planning Ref: 12/02013/HCS] which closed on Thursday 30 January 2014. You can download the objection from MAG/MPC here and read Steve Brine's objection here. Both links open as a PDF.
